10 Things About Me

Writer: Elyse FElyse F
  1. I have a Master's degree in Latin. I studied Latin in middle school and high school. That is where my infatuation with languages started. I had two incredible teachers who impacted my life in so many ways.

  2. I used to teach middle school Latin at an all-girls private school in Baltimore, MD.

  3. I am from New York (Long Island) and I have a Long Island accent, but you can only hear it when I am angry or with my family. Otherwise, I do a pretty good job of hiding it.

Basically, that's how we do it. And that hot brown drink you have in the morning is "cawfee".

  4. I am learning Spanish and am at the intermediate level. I use Duolingo and an online Spanish tutor. Like most language learners, my Listening and Reading skills are strong than my Writing and Speaking.

  5. I use a doll's head in classroom to tell my students stories and provide rich input in English. Her name is Karolina. Can you find her?

  6. Once in an interview I referred to teaching as being the mother bird spitting back up the food for the babies. In real life. And I got the job.

  7. I teach English Language Development for Multilingual learners at a high school outside of Baltimore, MD. I love it.

  8. I used to be a certified personal trainer and boxer. Once I got my second concussion, I gave up boxing. Then I became a yoga instructor. How different, right?

  9. I find a lot of professional development and teaching ideas on social media. My instagram is more valuable than most teacher conferences.
